Romania – Great Union Day in Alba Iulia

Romania – Great Union Day in Alba Iulia

We, as Romanians, every year on December 1st we celebrate the National Day. Also called the Unification Day, it commemorates the assembly of the delegates of ethnic Romanians held in Alba Iulia, which declared the Union of Transylvania with Romania in 1918.

This year we celebrated 99 years since the Romania Revolution. There were a lot of Romanians coming and the traffic to reach Alba Iulia was terrible. Unfortunately we calculated our time without taking into consideration a traffic delay and we missed the Military Parade. But now we have a good reason to go there again next year, where they announced a big ceremony since it will mark 100 years in 2018.

They announced a rainy day, but only the cold was present. At zero degrees, we attended some small shows and did a great walk around the Citadel neighborhood. We were proud to wear the national flag on our chest and see people dressed in our traditional costumes.
